The presentation took place on Thursday 11 July at the Palau Marc Hall, together with the other three dictionaries of the collection. In addition to Xavier Pons, there were speeches by Ester Franquesa, Director General of Linguistic Policy, Jaume Miranda, director of the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya, Josep Maria Rabella, coauthor of the Dictionary of Cartography, John Nunes, author of the Dictionary of Geographic Information Systems and Jordi Bover, director of TERMCAT.

Landsat-8 images already available

Today has been officially transferred the control of the Landsat-8 satellite from NASA to USGS-EROS. During the press conference Tom Loveland has said, "today is a day of transition from Landsat engineering to Landsat 8 science and real world application. Since 20:00 of today (local time) the new Landsat 8 satellite imagery will be available. As Xavier Pons said in the presentation ceremony last February, "The scientific community was impatiently waiting for the launch of the 8th satellite of the series." Images can be downloaded from the USGS server but you can also find processed images of Catalonia at SatCat server. Here's the video of the launch event which was held on 11 February in the UAB, as a review of remote observation principles, the history of the Landsat mission, possible applications of the derived obtained information and explanations of the new features in Landsat-8. As Pere Serra said "This will allow us to have the complete evolution of a particular area of study and then understand how the area has evolved over time".

Xavier Pons reports about the possibilities of Landsat-8 in a state meeting

Xavier Pons has been invited to make a presentation about the changes and possibilities of the release of the new Landsat-8 in a state meeting of users of medium resolution remote sensing images. The meeting has taken place on Thursday May 23 at the headquarters of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) in Madrid.

CREAF organizes the seventh GEO European Projects' Workshop in Barcelona

The GEO European Projects' Workshop (GEPW-7) was held in Barcelona on 15 and 16 April 2013. The event has been organized by the European Commission and CREAF with the aim to bring together all those interested in actively contributing to the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), in order to present their projects and actively discuss how Europe can contribute to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and GEOSS. The place where the workshop was held is the emblematic modernist building "The House of Convalescence" and has had the participation of more than 175 attendees.

Presentation of FRUITMAP

On February 15 was held in the Palau de congressos 'La Llotja' of Lleida, the presentation of the Suitable Fruit Production Map of Catalonia, a project in which GRUMETS have participated.
This has been a pioneering initiative in Europe which involved public and private institutions and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. For the first time, the more suitable areas for fruit production by typology are delimited, allowing better production efficiency in Catalunya. The 'fruitmap' will also show the change in the variety tipology and will help in the distribution of grants to production efficiency.
The study was done with technical resources from IRTA, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB-GRUMETS), Agroseguro, the Fruit Business Association of Catalonia and the Department of Agriculture of Catalonia.

GRUMETS Landsat 8 (LDCM) Launch Party

GRUMETS want to celebrate the launch of Landsat-8 with a tribute that will include a review of the basics of remote sensing, the history of the Landsat mission and possible applications derived from the information obtained and that naturally includes the explanation of developments in the Landsat-8. The event will feature live coverage of the launch of the new satellite into space from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The event will be held on Monday 11 February at the Sala d'Actes of the Facultat de Ciències of the UAB starting at 17.15 h.
